We travelled from Dublin across the country, almost due West, to our main stay hotel, The Flannery's Hotel, Galway (web site here). On the way we stopped at Kilbeggan where we visited Locke's Distillery (no known relationship with Eric!), described as "the only remaining small pot distillery in Ireland" (web site here). We had an interesting guided tour there, with most people taking the opportunity to sample the product (see below). We stopped in Athlone for lunch and had an easy drive to The Flannery's Hotel. The accommodation and food there proved to be of excellent value.
